A Comparative Analysis of the Morphological Characteristics of Elite Karatekas, Judokas, Taekwondoists, Boxers and Wrestlers International Journal of Morphology
Malacko,Julijan; Doder,Dragan; Stankovic,Veroljub; Dokmanac,Milorad; Savic,Biljana; Doder,Radoslava.
The aim of this research was to use a system of 37 variables of morphological characteristics on a sample of 108 elite male athletes (25 karatekas, 27 judokas, 19 taekwondoists, 18 boxers and 19 wrestlers), aged 17 to 23, to determine any statistically significant differences between the groups of athletes in terms of variable means, so that during the training process, the selection of athletes could be carried out in a proper and objective manner and that the training transformation processes could be managed more effectively. After processing the data using the statistical method of a multivariate and univariate analysis of variance (MANOVA/ANOVA), we obtained results that indicate that among the karatekas, judokas, taekwondoists, boxers and wrestlers...

Body Composition Comparisons by Age Groups in Hungarian Adults International Journal of Morphology
Ihász,Ferenc; Finn,Kevin J; Lepes,Josip; Halasi,Sabolc; Szabó,Péter.
The assessment of body composition provides a basis for evaluating changes in adults as they age. If the fat content is shown to be too high, intervention to reduce storage fat is warranted. The purpose of this paper is to report differences in body composition in men and women across three age groups (young, middle aged, older) to describe potential changes in both fat and muscularity. In addition, if fat storage is shown to be located in the visceral area (around the internal organs), then an addition risk to health would be evident. A total of 1564 Hungarian adults were tested for body mass index (BMI) and body composition using a multi-frequency electrical impedance device to determine percent body fat (PBF), percent muscularity (M%), and visceral fat...

Constitution of aquacultural stocks: Genetic aspects. ArchiMer
Chevassus, B.
Before reaching of production level justifying an elaborated genetic improvement program, the new aquaculture species deserve a minimal strategy to avoid the consequences of uncontrolled genetic phenomena. Three main aspects will be discussed: initial constitution of the broodstock; maintenance of the broodstock; selection of the broodstock.

Dimorphism in males of Zaops ostreum (Say) (Crustacea, Decapoda, Pinnotheridae) Zoologia
Sankarankutty,Cheruparambil; Ferreira,Alexander C..
A case of dimorphism among the males of the pinnotherid crab, Zaops ostreum (Say, 1817), is reported. The morphological features of the two types of males are also given.

Identification of General Patterns of Sex-Biased Expression in Daphnia, a Genus with Environmental Sex Determination ArchiMer
Molinier, Cecile; Reisser, Celine; Fields, Peter; Segard, Adeline; Galimov, Yan; Haag, Christoph R..
Daphnia reproduce by cyclic-parthenogenesis, where phases of asexual reproduction are intermitted by sexual production of diapause stages. This life cycle, together with environmental sex determination, allow the comparison of gene expression between genetically identical males and females. We investigated gene expression differences between males and females in four genotypes of Daphnia magna and compared the results with published data on sex-biased gene expression in two other Daphnia species, each representing one of the major phylogenetic clades within the genus. We found that 42% of all annotated genes showed sex-biased expression in D. magna. This proportion is similar both to estimates from other Daphnia species as well as from species with genetic...

Morphological and cytological aspects of sex inversion in a protogynous hermaphrodite, Epinephelus microdon (Teleostei, Serranidae). ArchiMer
Brusle, S; Debas, L; Cauty, C.
The sexuality of the grouper Epinephelus microdon , caught by diving in the area of Tahiti Island, from January 1986 to March 1987, is investigated. Small specimens are females, males occur among the largest fishes, revealing the protogyny of Epinephelus microdon as in other Epinephelinae. Nineteen fishes among 233 samples studied are in sex inversion.
